Using mediation as early as possible in the divorce process is the smartest way to reduce your cost. This is especially true if the divorcing spouses have hired lawyers, who are paid by the hour. Another important tip (rarely shared) is that, in South Florida, the Courts almost universally require mediation anyhow. So, both spouses can agree to voluntarily mediate as early as possible, with the help of the mediator work out a settlement that works for both spouses, save tens of thousands of dollars by not paying 2 separate lawyers to litigate your case in court for months and months. Alternatively, both spouses can hire and pay 2 separate lawyers thousands (or even tens of thousands) of your assets to litigate the case for months, and then go to mediation to settle the case or, worse yet, not settle the case and then pay even more money for a trial (where both spouses turn the decision-making responsibility over to a judge).
